The Cinema Times

The Cinema Times, Kathmandu- ‘Prakash’ was hugely appreciated in the premiere, yet got few shows in multiplexes, which has demoralized the team. Pradeep Khadka claims theatre operators are trying to lag the growing Nepali cinema industry. Actor Deeya Maskey agrees to Pradeep’s animosity and says the number of shows, timing matters; this is injustice to our cinema.

‘Prakash’ is definitely a path breaking cinema for actor Pradeep Khadka. From being a lover boy in all of his cinemas, ‘Prakash’ shows him in a never seen before character. The cinema fraternity and audiences alike had great expectations from the cinema. It garnered amazing reviews in the premiere show. But, this Friday release cinema was overshadowed by a Hindi cinema for the shows allocation in multiplexes.

Actor Khadka has major expectations from ‘Prakash’. So does his admirers. He has taken the risk choosing an entirely different character. Honestly speaking, he has challenged himself and proved his versatility, his passion in acting. Unfortunately, the differences shown by the multiplexes have left him disheartened. He is concerned, not only for his cinema but Nepali cinemas on a whole. He claims theatre owners are trying to lag the growing Nepali cinema industry. He further asked in exasperation, the number of shows allocated to ‘Prakash’ that too in off time indicates the ill attitudes of theatre operators. Is ‘Prakash’ such bad cinema? Does it scar Nepali cinema sector? Why are the operators up for dominating Nepali cinema? He couldn’t hide his wrath.

Actor Khadka says they are ready to compete with Hindi cinemas, but the initial 100/10 shows difference bars the fair competition. ‘Prakash’ is a story about discrimination and he feels the cinema is discriminated. ‘Prakash’ has been given lesser shows than his first cinema Escape, Khadka is amused by this. Actor Deeya Maskey agrees to Pradeep’s animosity and says the number of shows, timing matters; this is injustice to our cinema. Actor Khadka has appealed Nepali cine workers and organizations to stand with ‘Prakash’.

Directed by Dinesh Raut, ‘Prakash’ was hugely appreciated in the premiere, yet got few shows in multiplexes which has demoralized the team.
