Najir’s ‘The Ugly Duckling’ Now in Pokhara

The Cinema Times, Kathmandu- Actor Najir Hussain’s theater drama ‘The Ugly Duckling’ is now all set to staged at Pokhara after successful staged at Mandala Theater, Kathmandu.

Najir Hussain himself directed drama is adapted from Danish author Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytale. Drama will be stage at Gandarvha Natakghar of Pokhara located at Mahendrapul Gairapatan on Ashar 1- 3. Play timing is scheduled for 1 pm and 5:30 pm. The fee charge is Rs. 200 for students and for general Rs.500 and Rs. 1,000 respectively .

Drama also stars Milan Karki, Binita Gurung, Kiran Shrestha, Bikram Shrestha and Bijaya Karki alongside of Najir. Drama presents the story of a bird who goes through abuse and discrimination just because of his black color physical appearance.

Director has chosen the contemporary dance form to express the abusive life and certain transformation of ugly black duck. No dialogue has been used in the drama. Najir speaking about ‘The Ugly Duckling’ said, “It tells the story of a bird who suffers abuse and his mysterious transformation, despite of all odds. While the tale is universal in its appeal, it is quite relevant for us in Nepal.”

Further he said, “I myself come from an inter-cultural family and we have long been ridiculed for, say, our religious background or skin colour. So, I have presented that ugly feelings created inside me by others through this drama.”

Drama management helmed by Anup Neupane will have music co-ordination by Milan Karki and Prakash Sudip Khatiwada. Florence Karki is managing the play for Pokhara.
