Mahesh Tripathi wins Best Actor at International Film Festival

The Cinema Times, Kathmandu- In recent days, Nepali cinemas seem to be doing really well in international film festivals. Another example is set by ‘Halkara’. Actor Mahesh Tripathi won the Best Actor award in WorldFest55.

The cinema titled ‘Halkara-The Postman’ from Nepal wins big at 55th Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival. Actor Mahesh Tripathi won Best Actor award in WorldFest55 for his role in Bikram Sapkota’s directorial ‘Halkara’ (The PostMan).

In recent days, Nepali cinemas seem to be doing really well in international film festivals. Another example is set by ‘Halkara’. The world premiere of the cinema was also held at the same festival. Produced under the banner of Icefall Productions and Kalipaar Studios, the cinema stars Mahesh Tripathi and Binita Thapa Magar in lead roles. ‘Halkara’ will also soon be released in Nepal.

The cinema also won Platinum Remi and Cinematographer Chintan Rajbhandari won Gold Remi from the same cinema. Mahesh won the Best Actor Award defeating Ben Gavin and Oliver Lee, who had been nominated for the same category. The cinema is about an unemployed village drunk who accepts the job of a postman and ventures into remote villages of Nepal. In his journey, he must face the challenges and responsibilities of his new job while confronting the personal demons of his past.

The WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival is considered to be the third longest running and oldest independent film and video festival in the world. The award given at the Worldfest-Houston is called the Remi. The Remi Award is named after Frederic Remington.
