Three Generations, One Celebration: ‘Rel Ghumyo Ghumtima’ Releases

The Cinema Times

The Cinema Times, Kathmandu – If you’re building your wedding playlist this year, this is the song you’ve been waiting for. At 6 PM yesterday Music Nepal released ‘Rel Ghumyo Ghumtima’ a track already being talked about as one of the most danceable songs of the season.

The song comes from the upcoming film ‘Ek Mutthi Bada’l but stands strong on its own. Written by Harka Saud, one of Nepal’s most celebrated lyricists, draws from folk rhythm while carrying a deeply emotional core. Saud describes it as ‘a lok bhaka built on tension between three generations of women,’ where different voices exist within the same family, shaped by time, yet tied by shared experience.

‘Three generations, living different lives, but they carry the same feeling,’ he adds, ‘The experience changes, but what women carry within does not, yet everyone celebrates’

‘Ek Mutthi Badal’s Director Sahara Sharma says, ‘When developing the idea, Harka ji and I wanted to create something communal, something that didn’t just celebrate youth, which tends to be the only phase of life anyone bothers celebrating. We wanted young sentiments and old ones to sit together, and all of it held inside a very conscious, choosing-to-be-happy kind of feeling’

She adds, ‘if you pay attention, one of the film’s main themes is secretly woven into the lyrics. That’s a secret for now.’ Composed by Nepal Idol finalist Sumit Pathak, the song arrives on a personal note. Gauthali Entertainment chose to release it on his birthday, marking a long-awaited moment.

Producer Abhimanyu Dixit describes the journey as intense and focused. ‘Sumit did not just compose this song, he lived with it,” he says. “We kept shaping it, holding it, pushing it further. Within those boundaries, something honest came out.’

Vocals bring together two distinct energies. Meena Pokharel, known for Thamel Bazaar OST of LOOT 2, returns to singing after years, alongside Indrakala Rai, the voice behind Sushant KC’s Bardali.

With Kovid Bajra’s mixing and mastering, the track moves between emotion and rhythm without losing either. It feels both intimate and celebratory. The video adds another dimension.

Directed by Pratik Gurung, known for his critically acclaimed film Hari, the music video creates a visual bridge into the world of the film. ‘This is not just a promotional video,’ Gurung says. ‘It gives you a contrast to the film, and a glimpse into these characters and their lives before the film. The song draws you in, the film will take you further.’

Choreography by Kritika Baral, known for Sushant KC’s Bardali, Wangden Sherpa’s Juna Heri, and Sajjan Raj Baidhya’s Behuli, builds directly from the emotional core of the lyrics. ‘The lyrics speak strongly,’ she says. ‘As a woman, you feel them immediately. So the choreography had to come from that place.’

Each performer brings a distinct physical language. Aanchal Sharma carries a bright, expressive, cinematic energy. Usha Rajak grounds the frame with a more internal rhythm. Nisha Sharma, returning to screen after decades, brings a presence that feels lived-in and deeply familiar.

‘These are not just steps,’ Baral adds. ‘These are three ways of being.’ The song also introduces Sahayog Adhikari, a new face in Nepali cinema, paired opposite Aanchal Sharma. Their chemistry is light, playful, and quietly compelling.

‘There was a natural rhythm between them,’ says Producer Samipya Raj Timalsena. ‘You don’t see the effort. You see the connection, you can’t help but fall in love with the two.’

Rel Ghumyo Ghumtima is the promotional song of  Ek Mutthi Badal, directed by Sahara Sharma is presented by Gauthali Entertainment and Mana Production, and produced by Abhimanyu Dixit, executive producer Nikun Shrestha, with producers Sara Fazilat, Samipya Raj Timalsena, and Anup Poudel.
