The Cinema Times, Kathmandu – Actor Asha Magarati is reaching new heights with her cinema ‘Rajagunj’. She has become the first Nepali artist to be appointed as the jury member for the prestigious Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland. Receiving accolades in every screening, Deepak Rauniyar’s directorial ‘Rajagunj’ is set for Chaitra 1 theatrical release in Nepal.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, FIFF announced Magarati’s nomination to the international jury for the festival. This is a huge achievement prior to her cinema release. In 2017, Magarati featured cinema ‘White Sun’ had won four awards in this very film festival.
For the 39th FIFF, taking place from March 21 to 30, along with Magarati, the jury for feature films includes British cinematographer Derek Hudson and Swiss actress and pianist Anna Pieri Zurcher. The festival will also premiere ‘Rajagunj.’ Meanwhile, actor Magarati is busy promoting her cinema. She will head to Switzerland for the film festival after the cinema release.
‘Rajagunj’ features the talented ensemble cast of Asha Magarati, Dayahang Rai, Nikita Chandak, Bijay Baral, Pashupati Rai, Reecha Sharma, Gaumaya Gurung, Pushpa Yadav, Arati Mandal, Ghanashyam Mishra, Parameshwor Kumar Jha, Niraj Shrestha and others.
The cinema is directed by ‘White Sun’ famed Deepak Rauniyar. ‘White Sun’ was praised by the famous writer Paulo Coelho and was also listed in 9 debut directors to watch by The NewYork Times.
‘Rajagunj’ has already garnered accolades in several International Film Festivals. It was premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and has since been shown at several festivals including the Busan International Film Festival and the Mumbai Film Festival with critics noting its compelling narrative as thrilling police procedural.
‘Rajagunj’ is produced by Aadi Films’ Deepak Rauniyar and Asha Magarati, Baasuri Films’ Rambabu Gurung, Dayahang Rai and Mani Pokhrel and Tannhauser Gate, Alan R. Milligan with a screenplay co-written by Deepak Rauniyar, David Barker and Asha Magarati.
