The Cinema Times, Kathmandu – The recently released cinema ‘Basanta’ is receiving overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth. With a powerful social message and emotional storytelling, the cinema is resonating strongly with audiences. The cinema is being praised for the meaningful content that reflects society and inspires change. Actor, director Prakash Saput expressed joy over the public’s reception. Many viewers have urged others not to miss the cinema, saying- This is the kind of meaningful cinema Nepal needs more of.
Saput visited cinemas to gather audience feedback and he feels that the cinema is connecting with viewers. He was happy to see that people are appreciating both the content and the presentation and came to watch the cinema after hearing good things. The word-of-mouth publicity is strong.
The cinema also offers surprise star cast as actor Rajesh Hamal makes an appearance in the cinema. Similarly, actors Karishma Manandhar, Dilip Rayamajhi, Nischal Basnet, Najir Hussen, Keki Adhikari, Surakshya Panta and Priyanka Karki can also be seen in the cinema.
Contrary to early assumptions that ‘Basanta’ might carry a political agenda, viewers have clarified that the cinema is a socially grounded narrative. ‘It’s a genuine social story with a strong emotional core. There’s no political bias, one can watch it without hesitation”, shared one viewer. Another commented, ‘The beginning and ending are powerful. It is far better than expected.’
Audiences have called the cinema thought-provoking and inspiring, praising its ability to portray real societal issues with authenticity. ‘The acting and direction are both good. We hope more such cinemas come in the future.’ They recommended others to watch it as well. The cinema sheds light on the struggle of a young boy from a marginalized community who dreams of becoming a writer. Set against the backdrop of rural Nepal, the story highlights both the hardships and resilience found in society.
Director Saput shared that the audience has called the cinema impactful. He said that without sparking revolution or protest, ‘Basanta’ tried to show the current state of Nepali society. He added that the cinema attempts to portray that even in a good society, discrimination still exists. Just like in real life, the cinema presents both joy and sorrow.
Presented by Galbandi Productions, the social drama was written, scripted and scored by director Saput himself. Produced by Mohan Bishwokarma and Bindu Bohora, with executive producers Anurodh Bhattarai, Nana Thakali and Birendra Narayan Shrestha, ‘Basanta’ is Prakash Saput’s directorial debut. ‘Basanta’ features Swastima Khadka, Khadga Bahadur Pun, Prabhat Pal, Shree Shivanshi, Urmila Lampade, Anup Baral, Prakash Ghimire, Kamalmani Nepal, Maotse Gurung, Siru Bista, Bhola Sapkota among others.
