The Cinema Times, Kathmandu – ‘Behuli from Meghauli’ is one of the anticipated cinema since the announcement and is now all set to hit the theatres. Swastima-Nischal’s name is enough to know that this is one worthy cinema which will o’course entertain but also make one think about where we, as a society, stand.
When Swastima first received the script, she was told by the writer-director duo Sajan Baral and Aakash Kafle that the cinema is women-centric. At that point, she thought it would be the same pitiful woman stuff. But, it is different, it’s entertaining and shows mirror to the society at the same time.
Swastima says,’The story revolves around a girl who is about to step on age 30, which is looked upon as the finish line by the society. This problematic yet hilarious marriage preparation is presented in the cinema. Audiences will surely enjoy this.’
Nischal Basnet feels a cinema has to be entertaining but should also trigger some thoughts in the audiences. As the audiences return from the theatre, they should have the issue, needed change in their mind, only then the cinema can be called successful. He further added, this cinema will also make the audiences think and realize of the issue and might also push them to amend it.
Why a daughter is always a burden until married, why is 30 the last marriageable age, why is it more important to get married than wait for the right person! All these why’s will be presented in the cinema. The cinema effectively explores the role of a woman as expected to play by the society. The journey of a woman caught in the complexities of marriage and family is so well presented with humor. It has already captured the attention of cinephiles.
The cinema is produced as a joint venture of Black Horse Pictures and Meghauli Films. Written and directed by Aakash Baral and Sajan Kafle, the cinema is produced by Swastima Khadka and Nischal Basnet. Baral and Kafle are making a directorial debut with this cinema.
Firoj Khadka and Shankar Pandey are the executive producers. The crew include Narendra Mainali as DOP, Nimesh Shrestha as editor, Bijay Baral as casting director, Pradip Lama and Kebika khatri as choreographers.
Releasing on the occasion of Ghatasthapana on Asoj 17, ‘Behuli from Meghauli’ is a thought-provoking exploration of marriage, tradition and the challenges faced by women in a patriarchal society.
