The Cinema Times, Kathmandu – The premiere of ‘Gharjwai’ was a showcase of Nepali cinema’s exceptional storytelling and acting. A grand event was organized on Tuesday at Kathmandu which served as a platform to appreciate the impactful performances of actors Dayahang Rai and Miruna Magar and the overall cinematic experience with cultural touch.
Held amidst the presence of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nepal Indira Rana Magar, Khusma director Ashok Thapa, Director Ashok Sharma, actors Upasana Singh Thakuri, Kunsang Bomjan, Pashupati Rai, Producer Maniram Pokhrel, Director Kapil Bista and other cine workers and journalists, ‘Gharjwai’ was lauded for the craft.
Indira Rana Magar appreciated the authenticity in the storytelling with typical Magar culture’s representation. She also aplauded the typical story portrayal of Rukum’s Taksera area.
Actor Upasana Singh Thakuri was also touched by the cinema’s story and she also liked the way Magar culture was portrayed as she belongs to the far western side of the country, this cultural part was new to her. She also couldn’t hold herself from admiring the cinema for prioritizing female emotions. Similarly, actor Kunsang Bomjan also liked the story and presentation of the cinema.
Dayahang Rai and Miruna Magar, once again delivered a stellar performance in ‘Gharjwai’. Whether through intense emotional scenes or light-hearted moments, their on screen presence was compelling.
Dayahang Rai has the ability to seamlessly immerse in any role with his natural charisma. Talking to the media, he said, ‘Gharjwai is about Magar culture. I try to learn about every cultures and fortunately I got the opportunity to present Magar culture via this cinema. Honestly speaking I didn’t know much about Magar culture before but working on this cinema, it made me realize how culturally rich we are. I am assured that the audiences will be captivated by the cinema.’
Miruna Magar’s portrayal in ‘Gharjwai’ marked her commitment to the craft and her ability to inhabit characters with grace and authenticity. ‘Being a Magar myself, I am accustomed to eastern Magar culture. But working in this cinema I got to know the diversity of Magar culture followed in places of eastern Rukum, Taksera, Bacchigau and Lugum. I learned about the cultural essence. I request all audiences to watch this cinema to know more about our culture’, said Miruna Magar.
The cast includes Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, Shishir Bangdel, Raj Thapa Magar, Kabita Ale Magar, Buddhi Tamang, Pushkar Gurung, Anu Thapa, Bhola Raj Sapkota, Beena Thapa Magar, Shila Magar, Suresh Pun, Sonam Lama and others.
Produced under the banner of GM Movies in association with ABM Cinema Production, the cinema is directed by Anil Budha Magar and produced by Janak Gharti Magar. Other crews include Sushan Prajapati as DOP, Krishna Bhandari as editor, Manoj Thapa Magar and SD Yogi in music. Budha Subba Digital is the digital partner and the cinema will be distributed in Nepal by RR Films and MSM Australia has gained the abroad distribution rights.
The cinema has already garnered attention for its compelling storyline and talented ensemble cast. Written and directed by Anil Budha Magar, ‘Gharjwai’ is slated to release on Asar 28, 2081.
