2023: A Year of Bollywood Blockbusters Comeback

The Cinema Times, Kathmandu – 2023 unfolded a cinematic spectacle for actors like Shah Rukh Khan to Sunny Deol who proved they are not the ones to retire soon.

After the daunting Covid pandemic, theatres came alive with hoots and whistles as these Bollywood celebs made their mind-blowing comeback.

The first one to rise like a phoenix from the ashes is King Khan. Some had dismissed him and had already started counting days of his downfall but 58-year-old Khan hit the 1000 crores milestone in a single year with two consecutive cinemas.’Pathaan’ became a gigantic INR 1050 crores grosser. And with ‘Jawan’, he beat his own record with a staggering INR 1152 crores. Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ is the highest grossing Indian cinema of 2023.

66-year-old Sunny Deol surprised everyone with the smashing hit ‘Gadar 2’. No one had expected Deol to deliver a historical blockbuster that amassed INR 687 crores.

2023 was the year of Deol brothers. The Deol legacy shone bright with brother Bobby Deol’s comeback. It was merely a 10-minutes appearance as the antagonist without any dialogues in ‘Animal’, yet he garnered so much praise for it. Animal crossed INR 850 crores mark at the worldwide box office.

Another actor always in his A game is 73-year-old Rajnikanth. He has continuously proved that age is just a number as he returned to the sliver screen with INR 605 crores grossing ‘Jailer’.

The stage is now set for 2024 with impressive line up of cinemas. Fighter, Pushpa 2, Singham 3 like exciting cinemas are anticipated for big ticket releases.
