The Cinema Times

The Cinema Times, Kathmandu-   One of the most sensitive issues in society that not every film-maker can risk covering has to be domestic violence and marital rape.

We have seen several cinema where the lead actress is subjected to humiliation and torture by her own husband and family, and has this silent attitude.

Meanwhile, actress cum director Rekha Thapa have always tried her  best to pick up issues that affect us directly or indirectly in her movies.  Her latest cinema that released all over Nepal in 2nd of November picks up the issue of domestic violence is Maaleekaa, directed by Rekha Thapa.

The cinema has actress herself and Kamana Oli in pivotal roles, and after her hits like Rampyaari and Himmatwali, we have high expectations from Maaleekaa. Thapa is seen playing mentor to a girl while she is also featured in a couple of action sequences. The cinema seems to put light on the malpractice of child marriage.

Most importantly, it will be a big lesson to watch Rekha Thapa’s take on the issue of domestic violence.
