The Cinema Times, Kathmandu- Bollywood’s iconic Kapoor family has decided to sell off the iconic RK studio. Seventy years old studio was founded by late Raj Kapoor in 1948 in Chembur, north east Mumbai. His three sons Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor has collectively decided to sell the two-acre RK studio reporting that it was not economically viable to rebuild the studio again after it was gutted down in a fire last year.
Utmost cinemas made by the Kapoor family were shot at RK studio over the decades. One of the reasons behind selling RK Studio is also that Chembur in the eastern suburbs is no longer a favoured destination for cinema makers as most of them build their sets in Goregaon and Andheri. In the past, big cinema makers would hire the studio for their cinema shootings. The last cinema made under the banner was ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’.
